Sharing a chat

Bring teammates into a chat with a mention or a link.

A chat is private to you until you share it. There are two ways in, and both are limited to people in your organization.

Mention and share

Type @ and pick a teammate. On its own, a mention only points at someone: they are named in the message, and if they are already in the chat they are notified. A plain mention never changes who can see the chat.

To bring someone in with the mention, press ⌘ Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux) on their row in the picker instead of Enter, or click the Share pill the row shows. A "Will share" chip appears beside the composer, and sending the message invites them: they see the whole transcript from the start and can reply, add files, and add sources they hold. Remove the chip before sending to keep the mention without the invitation.

The Share control in the chat header creates an in-organization link. Anyone in your organization who opens it joins the chat. Turn the link off to stop new people from joining; everyone already in the chat keeps their access.

Who can share

The chat's creator can always invite people. A participant can invite when they belong to one of the pads the chat draws on (or to any chat that draws on no pad). Only the creator turns the link on and off or removes participants.

What changes when you share

Your personal pad leaves the chat's sources with the first invitation. Everything else stays as it was, and the header keeps naming the sources so every participant knows what the model can reach.
